Seat Depth Adjustment: A New Approach

Toggle

When it comes to chairs, comfort and support are paramount, especially for those who spend considerable time sitting. A key factor in achieving this is seat depth adjustment. Traditional chairs offer various ways to adjust seat depth, but the Anthros chair introduces a unique and innovative approach. Let's explore these methods and see how Anthros stands out.

Adjusting Seat Depth in Traditional Chairs

1

Sliding Seat Mechanisms: Many office chairs feature a sliding seat mechanism. This allows the user to pull the seat forward or push it back, customizing the depth to match their leg length.

Considerations: It may not accommodate shorter users as the mechanism typically increases the seat depth.

2

Adjustable Backrests: Some chairs come with an adjustable backrest. Moving the backrest forward or backward effectively changes the seat depth.

Considerations: When pulling the backrest rearward for taller users it creates a gap between the back rest and the rear of the seat. The user ends up sitting in the gap which can compromise comfort.

Removable Padding: In certain models, adding or removing padding can alter the depth of the seat. This is a low-tech way to create a specific seat depth.

Considerations: Often with this approach, the user’s upper back is left unsupported resulting in fatigue over time. It also does not accommodate taller users

4

Manual Reconfiguration: Some traditional chairs, especially non-office types, may require manual reconfiguration to adjust seat depth.

Considerations: This might involve adding cushions or making structural adjustments, which can be less convenient and less precise.

The Anthros Chair: A Unique Approach to Seat Depth Adjustment

The Anthros chair takes a different approach. It utilizes a two-part back system, with a special focus on the lower back pad. This innovative design serves a dual purpose – it not only supports the pelvis to prevent slouching but also acts as a seat depth adjustment mechanism. Here's how it works:

Low Back Pad: The lower back pad in the Anthros chair is designed to support the pelvis while providing seat depth adjustment. The user is meant to sit on the cushion at their most appropriate seat depth, and the low back pad is brought in to meet the body.

Considerations- For users under 5ft tall or with shorter legs, the seat depth may still be too deep.

Benefit- Taller users can sit at the rear of the cushion, never in a gap between the seat and back. Although they may have more than the recommended space between the back of knee and the cushion, the expertly designed cushion will still provide more pressure distribution and comfort than most chairs with greater seat depth, with its pressure relieving cutouts and Cloudtex fabric. This has been demonstrated with pressure mapping of individuals 6’4”-6’8”.

Shorter users, can find their appropriate seat depth and bring the low back pad to meet them. The most differentiating feature than other seat depth adjustment, is that the upper back can then be adjusted to support the thoracic area. Other mechanisms may adjust the seat depth, but the back support doesn’t often accommodate for the new position.

While traditional chairs offer various methods to adjust seat depth, the Anthros chair introduces a new method of adjusting for seat depth using the two-part back system. By using the lower back pad as an adjustment mechanism, and the adjustable upper back, the two-part back provides optimal support and customization to the user. Remember, sitting isn't just a passive activity; it's an opportunity to support your body's health and wellness, and the right chair can make all the difference.

If you are looking to improve posture and decrease pain while sitting, look no further than Anthros. Anthros is the only chair in the world that is guaranteed to improve posture or your money back. The science-backed, patented design is registered with the FDA as a posture-improving chair and is proven to have the lowest pressure (most comfortable) cushion on the planet (verified by university testing).
