Cloudtex®: The Hidden Technology that Sets Anthros Apart

The Anthros chair has pushed the boundaries of traditional ergonomic seating, and the seat is no exception. If you have sat in the Anthros chair, you will have noticed the exceptional comfort of the seat cushion. That’s because the Anthros seat is unlike any other office seat. It incorporates principles and technology that have never been incorporated in office chair seating.

If you’ve been following Anthros you’ll have heard about how our seat cushion is made of the highest quality foam, designed for long-term sitting. It is contoured using anthropometric data to match the human shape. This helps promote stability and optimal pressure distribution to minimize high peak pressures. Add to that the Cloudfloat technology under the sit bones, and you have the lowest pressure office chair cushion on the planet.

But we didn’t stop there. When evaluating our prototype cushions, we knew we could do better and take our seat cushion to the next level.

Introducing Cloudtex®

Cloudtex®is an elastic fabric that is designed to reduce friction and shear. It is comprised of two elastic layers that glide smoothly across each other. The patented blend of 86% Nylon and 14% Spandex in Cloudtex® ensures that the fabric is not only low in friction but also boasts two-way stretchability.

Anthros uses Cloudtex® under the outer fabric layer which prevents the outer fabric layer from sticking to the foam and reduces the resistance and discomfort that can be felt during frequent movement. This layer also promotes optimal immersion and pressure distribution, further minimizing high peak pressures under the sit bones.

The Testing Says It All:

Cloudtex-new-2

As you may know, Anthros had its seat cushion tested on three measures of comfort against the top competitors at an independent university lab. Although the Anthros cushion far surpassed the competitors, the results also showed that the use of Cloudtex® improved results in peak pressures, contact area, and shear.

Peak Pressure Index: Peak pressure implies high pressures in one area. The peak pressure index is what is calculated by averaging the individual sensor results along the sit bones portion of the testing fixture. A high peak pressure index is associated with discomfort or pain, so low values are desired.

Contact Area: A comfortable seat cushion should be designed to have the greatest pressure distribution or contact area possible. Higher values are desirable and indicate greater contact between the indenter and the cushion.

Shear: Shear is the combination of downward pressure (in sitting, through the buttocks), and horizontal friction (sliding forward in your seat when your skin sticks to the seat and you feel that pull). The strain on your tissues from that friction can be painful and cause discomfort. A low shear value is desirable.

The charts below show how Cloudtex® technology took a high performing seat cushion in measures of comfort to the next level.

The Anthros Commitment: World’s Most Comfortable Cushion

The data show that we accomplished what we set out to do: create the lowest pressure office chair seat cushion. And in our attempt to do this, we have also created the most comfortable sitting experience of any office chair on the planet. It has even been likened to “sitting on a cloud”. The Cloudtex® technology is a unique part of the cushion “recipe” that will not be found on any other office chair.

With Cloudtex®, the Anthros chair is not just a chair; it’s a haven of comfort, supporting your posture and well-being throughout the day.

Experience the future of comfort with Anthros and Cloudtex®, where every sitting moment is a step towards better health and enhanced productivity.
